200.000 IU of vitamin D does not reduce resting Blood Pressure and Inhibit Post-Exercise Hypotension in elderly women: a pilot study Anais da ABC (AABC)
GONÇALVES,MARIA DA CONCEIÇÃO R.; MIRANDA NETO,MANOEL; CAVALCANTE,ISA G.M.; SEBADELHE,VITTÓRIA R.R.J.; SOUZA,MICHELE F. De; NEVES,JULIANA P.R.; SOUZA,FLAVIA T.L. DE; TAVARES,RENATA L.; COSTA,MATHEUS S.; SILVA,ALEXANDRE S..
Abstract Given the scarcity of studies with elderly and the existence of studies investigating the effect of vitamin D supplementation in PEH (post exercise hypotension), this study evaluated the effect of a single megadose of vitamin D on resting blood pressure (RBP) and post-exercise hypotension (PEH) in the elderly. 11 hypertensive elderly women (70.3 ± 1.7 years) received a single megadose of 200.000 IU of cholecalciferol or a placebo, orally, through capsules. On day 7, the subjects performed 30 minutes of aerobic exercise with blood pressure measurement before exercise and every 10 minutes after exercise during 60 minutes, besides cardiac autonomic modulation. RBP did not significantly change. Exercise promoted significant systolic PEH only in one...

Cardiac index by thermodilution or transthoracic echocardiography in dogs at different hemodynamic states Ciência Rural
Gehrcke,Martielo Ivan; Cardoso,Helena Mondardo; Regalin,Doughlas; Silva,Gizelli da; Padilha,Vanessa Sasso; Moraes,Aury Nunes de; Oleskovicz,Nilson.
ABSTRACT: Proper monitoring of cardiac index (CI) in critically ill patients requires accurate and minimally invasive methods. The aim of this study was to compare the CI values obtained by thermodilution or echocardiography using different methods in dogs in different hemodynamic states. Nine dogs weighing 19.6±1.3kg were anesthetized with isoflurane at 1.4V% (Baseline) and subjected to mechanical ventilation (MV),a hypodynamic state (Hypo) with isoflurane at 3.5V% and hyperdynamic state (hyper) with dobutamine infusion at 5μgkg-1min-1. CI analysis was performed by thermodilution (TD) and using the modified Simpson's method, aortic velocity-time integral (A-VTI) method and pulmonary VTI (P-VTI) method. We performed Pearson's correlation and Bland-Altman...

Cortisol and 17-a-hydroxy-progesterone levels in infants with refractory hypotension born at 30 weeks of gestation or less BJMBR
Martins,P.G.; Procianoy,R.S..
Refractory hypotension is frequent in very low-birth weight infants, whose hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis has been suggested to be immature. The objective of the present study was to evaluate basal cortisol and 17-a-OH-progesterone in the first 36 h of life in preterm infants with and without refractory hypotension (mean arterial blood pressure below the lower limit for gestational age throughout the study despite aggressive volume expansion and use of vasopressors). Thirty-five infants with £30 weeks of gestation and a birth weight £1250 g, with no postnatal use of corticosteroid or death in the first 48 h were studied. Mean arterial pressure was measured every 4 h during the first 48 h. Cortisol and 17-a-OH-progesterone were determined at 12 and 36...

Endothelium-dependent vasodilation in response to Pseudomonas aeruginosa lipopolysaccharide: an in vitro study on canine arteries BJMBR
Evora,P.R.B.; Ekin,S.; Pearson,P.J.; Schaff,H.V..
Early systemic arterial hypotension is a common clinical feature of Pseudomonas septicemia. To determine if Pseudomonas aeruginosa endotoxin induces the release of endothelium-derived nitric oxide (EDNO), an endogenous nitrovasodilator, segments of canine femoral, renal, hepatic, superior mesenteric, and left circumflex coronary arteries were suspended in organ chambers (physiological salt solution, 95% O2/5% CO2, pH 7.4, 37oC) to measure isometric force. In arterial segments contracted with 2 µM prostaglandin F2a, Pseudomonas endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide (LPS) serotype 10(Habs) from Pseudomonas aeruginosa (0.05 to 0.50 mg/ml)) induced concentration-dependent relaxation of segments with endothelium (P<0.05)...

Hemodynamic and thermoregulatory effects of xylazine-ketamine mixture persist even after the anesthetic stage in rats Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Picollo,C.; Serra,A.J.; Levy,R.F.; Antonio,E.L.; Santos,L. dos; Tucci,P.J.F..
The xylazine-ketamine mixture (KX) is an anesthetic approach commonly administered to assess cardiovascular function in rodents. This study aimed to examine if the cardiovascular and thermoregulatory effects of KX could persist after the anesthetic state ceased in rats. Male Wistar rats were anesthetized with K (50mg/kg) X (10mg/kg) through the intra-peritoneal route. Hemodynamic and thermoregulatory repercussions were evaluated in animals in awake state, during an anesthetic depth and after complete recovery of anesthetized state. KX was efficient to significantly induce deep anesthesia in all rats after 10min. A complete recovery of anesthetized state was observed only after 210min. Compared with preanesthetic state and control animals that received no...

Isolation and biochemical characterization of bradykinin-potentiating peptides from Bitis gabonica rhinoceros J. Venom. Anim. Toxins incl. Trop. Dis.
Fucase,Tamara M.; Sciani,Juliana M.; Cavalcante,Ingrid; Viala,Vincent L.; Chagas,Bruno B.; Pimenta,Daniel C.; Spencer,Patrick J..
Abstract Background: Venoms represent a still underexplored reservoir of bioactive components that might mitigate or cure diseases in conditions in which conventional therapy is ineffective. The bradykinin-potentiating peptides (BPPs) comprise a class of angiotensin-I converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. The BPPs usually consist of oligopeptides with 5 to 13 residues with a high number of proline residues and the tripeptide Ile-Pro-Pro (IPP-tripeptide) in the C-terminus region and have a conserved N-terminal pyroglutamate residue. As a whole, the action of the BPPs on prey and snakebite victims results in the decrease of the blood pressure. The aim of this work was to isolate and characterize novel BPPs from the venom of Bitis gabonica rhinoceros....
